Bucky Continuing on the path of metallic righteousness, Redscale have unleashed a beast of hairy riffs mauling with melodic tempo, heartthrob vocal tones, and clawing with massive hook. These Germans have eclipsed the Country’s knack for infectious hard rock swagger with another example of the signature German roar.

𝔩𝔬𝔲𝔡-𝔮𝔲𝔦𝔢𝔱-𝔩𝔬𝔲𝔡 𝓡edscale deliver large in tone and tonnage, bearing enough resonant mass to sate beast king and listener alike. Colosseum-sized chordage, hippodrome-heavin' hooks and ziggurat-rockin' rhythms are hammered and tempered in the grand sonic forge, until a set of eight amplified artifacts emerge. High-octane riffage and groovin' emissions host a vocal conquest that is potent and total, bringing hard rain to a cold dawn and warm song to all there beyond. Favorite track: Bells Of War.

FEED THEM TO THE LIONS wave old tattered banners on crumbling grey marble stairs ancient ruins sing their mourning song tales of old glory, a whisper in the air a stronger hand, oh what we could become from the throne divinely ruled, oh no one can deny my claim darkest thoughts in golden rooms, no, pawns never survive this game they may call me heartless and cruel I just keep my people safe heavy head that wears the crown oh believe I feel the weight heavy hand comes bearing down kiss the ring that is sealing your fate surrender your name, your page is torn out and is brought unto the fire each word a transgression, each deed carefully weighed a scythe through the grain for the thiefs, crooks and the liars for oh lord, judgement has come Feed ‘em to the Lions on their knees and in chains Feed ‘em to the Lions removing the stain after thunder comes a bitter rain pleading voices sing the sweetest song lessons some will only learn through pain a golden god is what you want thorny roses start to bloom and crimson petals line my way tear the weeds out by the root, a marble figure turns your way through the blindfold she’s gazing at you Justice wielding more than scales heavy head that wears the crown iron spring parts chaff from grain heavy hand comes bearing down fingers closing the grip tightening surrender your name, your page is torn out and is brought unto the fire each word a transgression, each deed carefully weighed a scythe through the grain for the thiefs, crooks and the liars for oh lord, judgement has come Feed ‘em to the Lions on their knees and in chains Feed ‘em to the Lions removing the stain pray for your life your way to atonement and to be absolved from your crimes your true allegiance, your intent declared for every lamb that has been led astray to be brought under the reign

Hydra 05:21
HYDRA from distant lands, over trembling earth the horizon is filled with its shape it draws closer each day bells are ringing, they’re closing the gates it rears its ugly head we are taking a stand it don’t take much to be brave if you know, where it’s been made as long as the well ain’t dry you’ll never be betrayed steady hands unchanging minds an enemy to slay cut off another head the blade in the helping hand no land that hasn’t bled we paint the canvas in red raise the flag in our name and make ‘em join the parade cut off another head we paint the canvas in red walk in lockstep, falling in line gather forces for the cavalcade steadfast and side by side behind virtue are promises made it rears its ugly head we are taking a stand it don’t take much to be brave if you know, where it’s been made where it’s been made as long as the well ain’t dry you’ll never be betrayed steady hands unchanging minds an enemy to slay cut off another head the blade in the helping hand no land that hasn’t bled we paint the canvas in red raise the flag in our name and make ‘em join the parade cut off another head we paint the canvas in red we won’t stop and it grows another head we paint the canvas in red the blade is staking our claim and we break what we cannot obtain

UNSTUCK IN TIME used to see everything glued to canvas and locked in a frame under violet wings, in your thoughts when you sleep and you wake time’s a treacherous thing, every moment a leaf on your vine growing hazy and blurred, from the instant you’re crossing the line losing focus you stand as the maelstrom awaits see the distances fade as you follow the way when you follow the way, free yourself from your shackles tonight when you follow the way, breaking through become unstuck in time from the start to the end, see the moments like leafs on a vine from the start all the way, to the violet light drifting out into space, moving weightless and clear in your sight every choice that you make, branching out on the canvas of time as you’re pulling away, feel the veil being drawn from your eyes now you’re finally free, constellations perfectly aligned losing focus you stand as the maelstrom awaits see the distances fade as you follow the way when you follow the way, free yourself from your shackles tonight when you follow the way, breaking through become unstuck in time from the start to the end, see the moments like leafs on a vine from the start all the way, to the violet light
4.
THE HARD RAIN tremors shaking the earth hope you’re holding on tight coming down like the plague fires tear the black sky you should kneel and pray in despair, screaming and crying but in the back of your head you heard for quite some time let it crumble and fall sinking into the fire every castle and wall every crime every fraud an appropriate fate turned to cinder and thrown on the pyre and you call for the rain down from above let it all wash away stand laughing in the pouring rain bear witness to the sundering see the wicked how they try to hide our time is over but you’re feeling fine and on judgement day amidst the chaos you smile arms open praise the sky fire brimstone let it die let it crumble and fall sinking into the fire every castle and wall every crime every fraud an appropriate fate turned to cinder and thrown on the pyre and you call for the rain down from above let it all wash away oh we’re blessed by the rain let it fall our endeavours have failed time to let go hungry mouth greedy hands had to tear it down and have it all hatred, jealousy reigned and a pride that comes before the fall we overplayed our hand there’s no shelter from this storm calling out for the rain let it all wash away

Bells Of War 07:03
BELLS OF WAR broken faith and broken home the temper’s rising feel it humming in your bones the shells are flying a common man ain’t hard to find pockets full of lead them tired bells of war keep ringing in my head them tired bells of war keep ringing in my head don’t matter who we are, it’s killing everyday them tired bells of war keep ringing in my head don’t matter who we are, it’s killing everyday now the bodies piling high why, they do not know clawing over every mile human nature shows compassion for another time wiser are the dead them tired bells of war keep ringing in my head them tired bells of war keep ringing in my head don’t matter who we are, it’s killing everyday them tired bells of war keep ringing in my head don’t matter who we are, it’s killing everyday from the grave to the urn you can lay where you like from above sent with grace no need to be afraid bells tolling they’re calling your name claim your place, and your right from high above they’re ringing everyday them tired bells of war keep ringing in my head don’t matter who we are, it’s killing everyday them tired bells of war keep ringing in my head don’t matter who we are, it’s killing everyday

Cold Dawn 05:27
COLD DAWN I see light, storming the stage shutters open, break of day feel the waves come crashing down I hear the sirens wail look alive, with poise and grace easy smiles and firm embrace but my hands start wandering searching for a remedy getting a taste just a bit, ain’t nothing strange but it’sclamoring out for more convulsion, pleasure, pain such a comfortable warmth tidal wave down the spine burning blood and freezing time shelter me from the storm that is howling inside into darkness taking flight and out, this far away sweet silence rushing through my veins lonely ghosts in these empty halls until the light of day and out, this far away my shoulders free from every weight but I’m feeling the creeping cold at the light of day open eyes, after the fall on the ground, the angels moan every fiber aching, grasping after any straw go inside, open the door echo chambers, empty halls and the choir’s swelling 1000 voices, just one call taking the reins set a course, a destiny deeper into the folds the hunter found it’s prey something from down below crawls it’s way up the spine burning blood and freezing time caught in these iron jaws and it’s howling inside growing hunger feeds at night and out, this far away sweet silence rushing through my veins lonely ghosts in these empty halls until the light of day and out, this far away my shoulders free from every weight but I’m feeling the creeping cold at the light of day and out, this far away sweet silence rushing through my veins lonely ghosts in these empty halls until the light of day and out, this far away my shoulders free from every weight but I’m feeling the creeping cold at the light of day

Phoenix 08:11
PHOENIX after the fall the smoke rising up from the sand shattered ground below and moving a skeletal hand you’re raising these bones you’re shaking off the dust breaking from the hold the flesh beneath the crust shivering limbs slowly creeping towards the edge the expanse below a solitary star ahead it draws you in a tremor from the core you can hear the call it’s time to come back home the palest light is leading into the grave your mind decays and takes you into the cold the earth cracking open, the old world has to die a wail from the darkness below we crawl from the ashes moving towards the light after the fall your body raised a wandering ghost burning with new blood the searing mark emblazed and you leave behind a yawning empty grave the way inside is paved with every mistake a cold embrace the spectre leaving the host the earth cracking open, the old world has to die a wail from the darkness below we crawl from the ashes moving towards the light after the fall will we find what we’re searching, break free from the hold or are we on a path that leads us astray oh we shovel the dirt, we’re looking for gold what if we have been wrong all the way the world must be broken and cast to the flames we crawl from the ashes remade

about

Metal Hammer Germany (5,5/7):

"Stoner Rock aus Berlin - und was für ein guter! Redscale würden mir sogar als reine Instrumental-Band imponieren. Ihre Lieder erzählen Geschichten und vermitteln Emotionen. Da Frontmann Henning aber auch noch über eine astreine klassische Heavy Rock-Stimme verfügt (und nie deutsch klingt), mutiert FEED THEM TO THE LIONS zur Überraschung des Monats."

Time for Metal (9/10):

"Die Berliner katapultieren sich mit diesem Werk auf eine Ebene mit bekannten Heavy Rockern, denen sie mit ihrem äußerst kraftvollen Sound in nichts nachstehen."

Doomed & Stoned:

"The hefty vocals remind me of that classic heavy metal style most recently embodied by Screaming Mad Dee Calhoun and even Neil Fallon. In other words, there’s a lot of oomph to the songs. You can imagine Redscale’s vox having mutant powers to lift up rocks and tear down walls. At least that’s the crazy place my mind goes as I audit the record.

Imagine this embodied in a contemporary stoner rock framework and you’ve got Redscale’s style in a nutshell. Instrumentally, the songs are well-developed and aren’t in a rush to get you right into the verses and chorus, more intent to appreciate the scenery along the way to the gradual reveal. I’m certain that fans of Elder, Clutch, and Baroness will find much to dig here. If nothing else, this is a great summer record to turn up loud and salute, with beer or toke in hand."

Noise Pollution (8/10):

"Feed Them to the Lions is a battlefield and nothing else. It was metal which had retained in it, a sense of aestheticism. The concept was lyrical, and given the timbre of the guitars, especially during the first song, I had to play it at least twice for the assurance that I was listening to the same band. After all this, I am perhaps, thankful to have reviewed this piece of art. This was the kind of music which you listen to on repeat, rocking your body to-and-fro with a cup of milk in your hand as you pretend it’s alcohol. But nevertheless, a revolutionary war which earned from me a rating of 8."

Marku's Heavy Music Blog (8/10):

"Fueled by heavy riff power the quartet cruise through the tracklist without taking compromising as an option."

Electrictunes:

„Sehr kraftvoll ist der Stonermetal aus der Bundehauptstadt, Redscale legen sich ordentlich ins Zeug und reißen den Hörer mit. Das, was „Feed them to the Lions“ aus den Boxen wabern lässt, das ist ganz klar mehr als irgendwas, was man nur einmal hört.“

Lords of Metal (81/100):

"What I find so cool about these songs is that they sound like the band just shakes them out of their collective sleeve, but that they are full of adventure. Except for a few straightforward songs each of them is a pleasant voyage of discovery, in which the riffs form an interesting tunnel system through which the listener is guided; with clear psychedelic influences that are the treasuries in this tunnel system and the dark, unexpected musical twists that are the guardians of these rooms. I've listened to this album at least eight times non-stop and the songs still sound fresh and fascinating. This is a must for anyone who loves good stoner and nice, heavy rock." (translated)
